SUNRISE OVER SCIPIO
by H. Linn Murphy

When barrel-racing champion Tamsin Tucker is seriously injured in an accident, her whole world crashes down around her. She is abandoned in a tiny Utah town, where her leg is amputated to save her life. Tamsin’s horse is gone, she has no family, and she feels God has forsaken her. From where she stands, prospects are bleak.

Through what she comes to recognize as a blessing from heaven, Tamsin finds friendship with those who assist in her recovery. Her nurse, Sarah, has her own set of problems, but a faith Tamsin can’t deny. Handsome doctor Travis Mayfield questions his belief in God until he witnesses divine intervention on Tamsin’s behalf.

Getting on her feet won’t be easy. But with a new-found purpose, the help of friends and of a man who adores her, and the matchless love of her Heavenly Father, Tamsin will forge a new life.

Note from Author
We were on vacation in Utah, driving through a string of tiny towns. As we flashed through a minute, run-down town called Scipio, I thought, "Self, you have to write a  story for Scipio. Someone needs to know there is such a place."

Note from a Traveler
"It's always great when you find a town you really like, especially when you're not expecting one. I drove into Scipio, thinking it was nothing more than a junction with Interstate 15. Instead, I found a charming little farming town, and a hundred different places to take a picture. I needed to pass through quickly, in order to stay on my schedule, but I ended up spending, perhaps, an hour here." --Source
My Review
WOW! What an AMAZING book!
LOVED. LOVED. LOVED. IT!

Tamsin is my NEW HERO! She loses her leg, she loses her husband, she loses her horse, she loses her home. And after losing her way for a small amount of time--

She get back on the saddle as they say :)

She makes new friends. Makes a home for herself. And makes the most out of life.

She still has ups and downs as any normal person would, but she strives hard to accomplish her goals...even racing a marathon...with one leg...WOW!

I love all the changes that come over her...strong writing gives a feeling of being SO REAL!

Sarah and Travis are fun to read about too.

OH, SUCH A GREAT BOOK!
Would love to read more from this author!

About the Author
Jan Pieńkowski is a household name to children of more than one generation. He left his native Poland together with his parents during the 2nd World War and lived in Bavaria and Italy before coming to England in 1946, when he was 10 years old.

Jan was educated first at Lucton School, Herefordshire, as a boarder, which gave him a chance to learn English (in self defence), and subsequently at the Cardinal Vaughan, London, which gave him a chance to learn Greek and Latin and was a gateway to Kings’ College, Cambridge. While there, he developed artistic skills by designing theatre posters and sets for university productions. He also attended a regular life drawing class and has gone on drawing from life ever since.

After taking his degree, he started his artistic career in advertising design, greeting cards, and drawing live on BBC television as part of a popular children’s programme. He was soon discovered by the London book world and snapped up by art directors, first for covers and subsequently for children’s book illustration. It was telling stories in pictures that became his life's work.

About The Book Artisan - I've been a book lover my whole life! The idea to start re-purposing older books as decorative displays began after I folded books for decorations for a family wedding. I’ve made everything from Don Quixote-themed designs, to phrases formed from multiple books. Who knows what’s next…maybe a marriage proposal using book art?

LEGALLY AND LAWFULLY YOURS
by Anita Stansfield

Following the revelation of her fiancé’s philandering ways, high-powered New York attorney Shannon Turney’s wedding is off.

At a time like this, the last thing she can handle is family drama. But when she learns how far her brother and sister-in-law’s lives have spiraled out of control, the only thought in her mind is the safety of her young niece and nephew.

After Shannon is granted custody, she and the children are eager to run long and far from their problems. The end of the road is Sugar City, a place as delightful as its name implies.

In the tiny town, Shannon gets much more of a change than she bargained for. Welcomed with open arms by the townspeople, including the handsome local veterinarian, Shannon and the children slowly begin to heal.

But when their idyllic existence is threatened by the return of the children’s mother, Shannon has no choice but to return to the courtroom she left behind.

She has one last legal battle to fight, and the outcome may mean losing everything she loves . . .

Her motto is:
Hope for the best, and be prepared for the worst.

My Review
Anita claims "I write relationship fiction, which is not the same as romance novels!" And that is exactly what this book is! SO. SO. SO. GOOD!

This book grabbed me from the very first page and I couldn't put it down until I had read every word.

I was so impressed that Shannon would leave her luxurious career to find greater happiness in helping raise two small children who really needed her.

She becomes the aunt she wishes she had had when she and her brother had no one else.

Now she is on the run and hiding and trying to find a new home for these children and herself.

Along the way she finds a support team and more family members in Phillip and Marj and others from the town of Sugar City...you will LOVE how that all comes together!

Follow Shannon as she battles to get the kids to safety
and keep them there.

So many GREAT SCENES!
Such GREAT WRITING!
Really LOVED this one!

Made in the USA: The Game

MADE IN THE USA: THE GAME
by Mike Agrelius

Made in the USA is different than any other game you have ever played; it combines elements of card and board games and dominoes. Players create four lines of play using the four different patriotic suits. Players have the freedom to play as many cards as connect, or unit, to each other. For example, you may play a Seven, Eight and Nine of Stars, then play an Eight of Eagles. Play cards that connect to other players' cards. But when you change lines/suits then you will need to draw a "Changes in the Wind" card - so even when you think you have won, the round might not be finished.

My Review
This game is REALLY FUN!
We played it as a family, and then my husband and I played it after everyone was gone. While it was fun with just the two of us it was so much more fun with a group :)

Click on the picture for better visability
Think dominoes with a twist-

The USA cards are played like dominoes--simply connect with the same number (different suit) horizontally or with an adjacent number (same suit) vertically.

The twist comes with the "Event Cards" or the "Changes in the Wind Cards." These cards can block a suit or a player, they can force you to draw more cards, or they can free you.

It really makes you think and strategize!

Fast paced! Lots of laughs and agonizes!

I really liked having the USA theme-- Card suits are: Stars, Shields, Eagles, and Bells. It honors military and first responders.

Some of the Changes in the Wind cards are:
*Give Me Liberty- Receive all the Liberty Bells from a player of your choice
*Born Free- Don't do anything, just sit there and enjoy being an American
*Standing Tall- If you played a Star card on this turn, draw a card.
*Luxury Tax- Draw a card if you have more than two cards in your hand.
*God Shed His Grace On Thee- Lift all blockades.
*Justice For All- Everyone (beginning with you) draw a card.
*And MORE

Grab this game for many hours of pure family fun!

Understanding Your Endowment

Understanding Your Endowment
by Cory Jensen

For many members of the church, the temple endowment remains something of a mystery. Yet when understood, the temple can function in our lives as a modern day Liahona, giving us our bearings in our mortal journey back to our Father. “Understanding Your Endowment” is packed with insights and keys, which can help you unlock the temple’s purpose and meaning in your life. It will help you understand the blessings the Lord offers His children through His temples and will enrich your personal temple worship.

“Understanding Your Endowment” examines topics such as covenant ceremonies, the initiatory ordinances, the endowment, and temple sealings in a manner that is plain and easy to understand while still respecting their sacred and confidential nature. Whether you are preparing to enter the temple for the first time or already attend regularly, your temple worship will be enhanced by reading this book.

Excerpt
Do you ever feel like there is something more to the temple, but you aren't quite getting it? Perhaps, at times, you have even found yourself distracted or bored in a temple session. It doesn't need to be that way.

Coming to understand our own endowment is a personal, sacred journey, one largely between us individually and the Lord. No one, other than the Lord, is really qualified to unfold everything, and much of that will come quietly through the Spirit. Part of the beauty of the temple's ordinances and teaching lies in the fact that the Lord can personalize them to whatever stage we are at in our individual growth. The path to understanding requires time, effort, and experience. Sometimes it may seem a bit overwhelming. We may need some help, or at least a foundation form which to begin.

The intent of this book is to help lay that foundation and enrich your temple experience. It is written for believing Latter-day Saints who would like to better understand their own temple endowment.

President David O. McKay once stated:

I have met so many young people who have been disappointed after they have gone through the House of the Lord. They have been honest in that disappointment. Some of them have shed tears as they have opened their hearts and expressed heart-felt sorrow that they did not see and hear and feel what they had hoped to see and hear and feel. I have analyzed those confessions as I have listened to them, and I have come to the conclusion that in nearly every case it was the person's fault. He or she has failed to comprehend the significance of the message that is given in the Temple.

It's not just the youth who feel this way. Many adult members sense deeply the temple's importance but don't feel they understand it all that well...

...Sometimes, as a people, we are so reticent to speak of the temple that we say almost nothing. Perhaps we need to say a bit more. This work tries to maintain an appropriate balance. President Benson remarked, "Because of its sacredness we are sometimes reluctant to say anything about the temple to our children and grandchildren. As a consequence...when they go there, they do so without much background to prepare them for the obligations and covenants they enter into. I believe a proper understanding or background will immeasurably help prepare our youth for the temple."

My Favorite Quotes
Suppose you were teaching a class of Israelite youth in biblical times and posed the question: "What is a covenant?" Would they have responded that a covenant is a two-way promise? Probably not. Ancient Israel didn't claim to be the Lord's "two-way promise" people. They were the Lord's covenant people and understood covenants in terms of a sacred relationship. Our modern definition of covenants as two-way promises between God and man actually misses the heart of covenants. Covenants can create the most binding relationships possible.

If you will attend [the temple] and ask the Lord in faith to let you know where you are at in your progression, He will let you know. That understanding can help us glimpse what still lies ahead or what we lack, along with the recognition of what we have already received. In this manner, [the temple] can provide us with our bearings in our daily wilderness, much as the Liahona did for Lehi's family.

My Review
The author handles this topic with reverence and humility. I am SO GRATEFUL he has shared his knowledge with us. Using personal stories, other examples, and scriptures this book really opens up a greater understanding of so many things!

When next I attend the temple I will have some added insights that will make the experience more meaningful...and I will be more prepared to have the Spirit be with me.

Believe me, I know, in today's busy world sometimes going to the temple requires great sacrifice and is often hard to fit in. But I also know there are great blessing awaiting us there.

If you will read this book I believe that with this added knowledge you will seek the time to attend the temple so that you might more fully have UNDERSTANDING [of] YOUR ENDOWMENT.

It really is POWERFUL!

About the Author
Cory B. Jensen graduated with honors from Brigham Young University with a Masters of Business Administration degree. He currently serves as an ordinance worker in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. He and his wife, Traci, are the parents of four children. Cory grew up in the shadow of the Logan temple and developed a love for the temple early in life. He wants most of all to be a faithful disciple of Christ and a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He often falls short but keeps trying. He hopes that the message of this book will enrich your temple experience and bless your life. He also really hopes you will judge it based upon its message and not by the cover or who wrote it. It’s the message that matters.

LUCKY MIDAS
by Kate Palmer

Eight-year-old Lily loves animals, but can't have a pet because of her Mom's allergies. When Lily and her older brother rescue a stray dog, can they find a way to keep him?

Lucky Midas is an easy chapter book with pictures for kids ages 6-8. There are ten chapters and several colorful illustrations in this kids book for kindle.

Children who like kids books about pets will enjoy reading about a brother and sister as they rescue a stray dog.

It appeals to readers of girl books and boy books alike. The sentences are short and the vocabulary appropriate for children in first through third grade.

My Review
What a cute story!

I was especially impressed with how well the brother and sister got along.

And instead of the sister always telling the brother what to do she would simply say "you'll think of something. You always do."

A wonderful introduction to pet care and allergies and how families can work together.

I really like the twist at the end--

A FUN family read, or to have a child read to you, or to simply enjoy on our own.

Grab a copy today and see why this dog is called Lucky Midas :)

10 Questions to Answer After Serving a Mission

10 QUESTIONS TO ANSWER AFTER SERVING A MISSION
by Benjamin Hyrum White

Make the most of your mission.

Whether you're wondering about dating, school, career plans, or temple attendance, this book will help you assess your commitment to the Lord.

By incorporating missionary skills into your post-mission life, you can create your own gospel goals and habits that will extend into the eternities.

Perfect for newly returning missionaries and those who've been home for a while.

This book is a continuation of the content presented in 10 Questions to Answer While Preparing for a Mission.

My favorite quote:
" Your purpose as a missionary is to: Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.

Your purpose as a returned missionary [or adult] is to: Invite yourself to come unto Christ by living the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, partaking of the sacrament, following the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end."

Excerpt
The transition from taking care of everyone else to worrying about yourself can be a difficult one. Whereas you were only concerned with helping other come unto Christ for eighteen or twenty-four months, now you have to practice what you preached. You have to live what you so vigorously taught those around you as a missionary.

Do not look at this next stage in your life as being selfish, as much as it is an opportunity to prepare yourself for lifelong service in the kingdom of God.

Look at each of the chapters in Preach My Gospel and how they can apply to your life right now. Each one of them can be slightly modified to help you adjust to your life as a returned missionary.

* Chapter 1: What is my purpose as a returned missionary?
* Chapter 2: How do I study effectively now that I am home and for the rest of my life?
* Chapter 3: How do I live and apply what I've taught?
* Chapter 4: Am I still recognizing the Spirit in my life?
* Chapter 5: What role does the Book of Mormon play in my life now?
* Chapter 6: Am I still developing Christlike attributes?
* Chapter 7: How am I going to continue using my mission language? (If applicable.)
* Chapter 8: Am I still setting and keeping goals and using my time wisely?
* Chapter 9: Am I still finding people to share the gospel with--and finding someone to marry? :)
* Chapter 10: Am I keeping my teaching skills sharp by magnifying my calling?
* Chapter 11: Am I keeping my covenants with the Savior?
* Chapter 12: How will I prepare for my next temple ordinance?
* Chapter 13: How will I work well with my new stake and ward leaders?

So instead of discarding your Preach My Gospel manual now that you are home from the mission field, use it as a springboard into the new challenges of your young [or a little older] life. Just as "the Lord of the vineyard labored also with" (Jacob 5:72) you in the mission field, He will not leave you now that you have come home. The challenges and scenery in the vineyard may have changed, but the Savior will still work with you as you seek His help in the new furrows of your life.

My Review
This book is by far the best post-mission book I have ever read!
I wholly endorse this book!
Cannot say enough good about this book!
WOW! Beyond good--it is FANTASTIC!

YES! Every returned missionary needs to read this book AND EVERY ADULT NEEDS TO READ THIS BOOK!

The brethren have encouraged all of us to read Preach My Gospel.

Benjamin Hyrum White adds an INSPIRING TWIST-- he takes it from:

PREACH MY GOSPEL
to LIVE MY GOSPEL

The 10 questions are POWERFUL! The helps, insights, stories, examples, and answers to those questions will be life altering if you allow them!

Are you ready for the questions?

Question 1: How will I adjust from Preach My Gospel to Live My Gospel?

Question 2: How can I perform my physical and spiritual Calisthenics Daily?

Question 3: How will I make worshiping the Lord at Church on Sunday a priority?

Question 4: How will I focus on regular Worship at the Temple?

Question 5: How will I accomplish my Educational Pursuits?

Question 6: How will I continue to Work Hard now that I am home?

Question 7: How am I striving to create a Celestial marriage?

Question 8: How well am I living the Law of Chastity?

Question 9: How will I fully embrace the Doctrine of Conversion?

Question 10: How will I Endure to the End through the Grace of Jesus Christ?

Now grab a copy of this book and start seeking the answers-- you will be SO GRATEFUL you did! This is one I will be studying for a while--so much to ponder--so much to strive for :)

DO NOT SKIP THIS ONE!
A TRUE MUST-READ!

PORTRAIT OF LIES
by Clair M. Poulson

It was a robbery gone bad, or so they said. For Detective Trey Shotwell, the murder of his mother, a prominent artist, was the catalyst for setting aside his own artistic aspirations to pursue a career in law enforcement—despite the opposition of his father, also a famous painter. When he agrees to attend an art auction featuring his father's work, the cruise ship locale provides the relaxation that Trey needs—and when he meets stunning fellow passenger Ariah Stanton, the undeniable chemistry they share is an unexpected bonus.

But the tranquil voyage quickly turns into a nightmare at sea. The Shotwell paintings have disappeared, and amidst the chaotic hunt for the thief, a murderer is free to roam the halls of the ship. Ariah finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time, and miraculously escapes the murderer—for now. But another victim is not so lucky...

The crime is eerily reminiscent of the death of Trey's mother so many years before. But this time, the young detective has the resources he needs to track the killer. As the pieces of the puzzle begin to come together, they paint the chilling picture of a sinister plot years in the making. In a manhunt that takes him from the high seas of the Pacific to the wilderness of Australia, Trey will stop at nothing to solve the crime and protect the woman he loves.

My Review
The most fun thing about this book for me is that-- I was reading about this murder mystery that takes place on a cruise while actually being on a cruise-- it really brought it to life :)
Click HERE to read more about my cruise

Clair M. Poulson is one of my most favorite authors and I have been reading his books for a long time--

I was intrigued with this book and how just as someone confesses to the crime a twist was thrown in and the plot thickened and the mystery continued with another issue needing to be solved.

Really keeps you reading and wondering and scrambling to see what else could possibly be thrown into the story line--absolutely loved it!

This book has it all!
Crime
Murder
Cold case tie-in
Romance
Intrigue
Suspense
