If you want to really feel the Christmas spirit this year then follow along as a group of friends put into play a "last-wish" list left by a man who changed each of their lives. The list includes things that are easy to do, yet we often find them difficult to follow. If put into practice this list can change not only your holiday season, but your outlook on life. No Peace with the Dawn

A review copy was provided

by E.B. Wheeler and Jeffery Bateman

I love to read for pure enjoyment without too much analyzing--but lately books like this really make me think about what I would do if I was in that situation-- Would I be able to just go on with life? Would I be one to join in the fight anyway I can? Would I put my life on the line to save another? This book is SO GOOD! I love that it is based on true facts--which just makes me wonder even more what I would do if these things hit close to home again. This one is a MUST-READ!

In 1917, the Great War seems far from Logan, Utah. But soon it will change the lives of suffragette and mechanic Clara, Swiss-German immigrant and LDS convert Trudi, Marine Corps volunteer Reed, and Shoshone seeking U.S. citizenship Joseph. This novel weaves real events with compelling fictional characters into a sweeping tale of war, romance, self-discovery, and sacrifice.

Favorite Quotes
As I have read this book I have really pondered what war is like and how it affects the people who serve-- Here are a few quotes from the book that I really loved:
  • "It is messy work. You see some things here that are unpleasant."
  • "The sights and smells are disturbing--too much for some people."
  • "I'm from a farm, Ma'am. I have seen unpleasant things, and they do not frighten me."
  • "The world wasn't the same place it had been two years ago. Not only did she know it better, but it had changed as she watched, something of innocence dying in everyone around her as the machines of war pounded on."
I never realized that at the end of WW1 there was an influenza pandemic (1918-1919) which killed more people than all the victims of the war. I learned so much from this book! You really do need to read it! FABULOUS BOOK!

Bitterness has tainted his interactions with the people of Moreland and his relationship with his only daughter, Lady Joanna. With a wolfhound guarding her around the clock and no freedom to leave the castle grounds unattended, the only time Lady Joanna can be alone is when she sneaks out through an old castle tunnel to visit the healer Agnes in her cottage by the sea. An Unexpected Harvest

by Quinn Orr

I absolutely love all of the Christmas booklets that come out this time of year for us to read-- Quick, tender stories that bring light and love to our hearts. Isn't that what Christmas is all about?
This story is based on true accounts. SO. SO. SO. GOOD!

Just like every other Alberta farmer this season, Bishop John Simmons is worried about the harvest. A late spring has delayed the crops’ growth, and with the looming storms of an early winter, the town may not get to gather them at all. But as each farmer struggles to bring in his livelihood, Bishop Simmons’s thoughts turn to the Jackson family, where a streak of serious illness has kept them in bed—and out of their fields—for weeks. Without help, they’ll soon face a year without income.

Bishop Simmons wishes he could do more, but how can he pull together a last-minute miracle when one of God’s commandments seems to stand between him and the harvest?

What an adorable story! I LOVED IT!
You quickly figure out where the story is going, but along the way many roadblocks make you wonder if they will ever get there--And that makes for some very fun reading! The family struggles that play in the story give you a sense of belonging--especially if you have been there before. And the Christmas setting will draw you in leaving you smiling until the very last page is turned. I highly recommend this book!

Filled with plans, McKenzie Forsberg returns to her hometown to spend Christmas with her family. Stressed by a year of intense, ongoing problems, she quit her high-powered job to move back and rebuild her life. Kenzie desperately needs the peace and security she is sure will come from buying the home she grew up in. But when she arrives, Kenzie discovers that a handsome widower, Jared Rawlins, has already put an offer on the house. However, he can only close the deal if he sells his own house by Christmas Eve.

When Kenzie unexpectedly runs into a couple who are considering buying Jared’s house, she unthinkingly gives them information that changes their mind. Jared is more than a little interested in Kenzie, but has second thoughts when it appears Kenzie may have attempted to sabotage the sale of his home. Feeling bad, Kenzie apologizes but the damage may be too much for their relationship to overcome. Despite themselves, sparks of attraction grow into something more. Then, a few days before Christmas, Kenzie makes a stunning discovery about her past. In that moment, everything changes. Will the power of love be enough to bring Jared and Kenzie together and allow them to find their happily ever after?

“What made you decide to move to Lake Forest?” Kenzie asked.

“I’ve always loved it here,” Jared said. “It’s a beautiful area, and there’s a special atmosphere here. People are so friendly. I guess part of the reason I came is because I needed to go someplace new and kind of start over, you know?”

Kenzie did know. That was exactly what she was doing now. She’d gotten over Larry, but she needed to go someplace new and reinvent herself and her life.

“Now let me ask you,” Jared said. “What made you decide to come back?”

“A lot of reasons. I need a fresh start too. I’m tired of the hectic pace in Chicago.” Impulsively she added, “Also, I had to get away from my job at Midwest. A guy was causing some real problems for me—” She stopped. Their eyes met and lingered. Jared’s compassion was evident and the expression on his face kind. She felt so comfortable talking with him—as if they were kindred spirits. Something in her heart softened into a spreading pool, and she smiled at him.

Tearing open his packet of Oreo cookies., Jared took one and dunked it in his hot chocolate.

Kenzie frowned. “Figures. You’re a dunker.”

“And I bet you’re a twister.”

Snatching up a cookie, Kenzie twisted it open and took a bite of the creamy middle. “Ummm.”

Jared shuddered. “That’s wrong in so many ways.”

Picking up her mug and warming her fingers, Kenzie sipped her hot chocolate. “This is wonderful!”

“It’s a secret recipe—been in my family for generations.”

“No, but it sounds good, doesn’t it?”

From Book 1: Adrielle Pyper knows how to plan a wedding, and she's especially good at pleasing bridezillas. But when her biggest client and best friend is murdered just three days before the wedding, Adri's world falls apart. She moves to the resort town of Sun Valley, Idaho, and starts from scratch. Thanks to Adri's impeccable taste and unique style, she lands two celebrity clients, and her business seems headed for success—until someone vandalizes the specialty wedding dresses she imported from overseas. Adri must race to uncover the secret hidden within the yards of satin and lace before she becomes the next victim.
With a delightful blend of mystery, toe-curling kisses, humor, and spine-tingling thrills, Diamond Rings are Deadly Things will keep you turning pages long into the night.

From Book 2: When wedding planner Adrielle Pyper orchestrates a destination ceremony in Hawaii, she’s prepared for anything—except murder. After the trauma of her last event, the beautiful isle of Kauai is the perfect place for Adri to unwind and do what she does best – plan. She even lets herself indulge in the attention of the groom’s handsome brother. But just when everything seems to be perfect, an afternoon snorkeling trip turns deadly when Adri discovers the body of a young woman.
Shaken, but unable to let go, Adri’s sleuthing leads her into more danger than she bargained for. When a number of “accidents” threaten her own life, it soon becomes apparent that someone will do anything to keep Adri from interfering with their vengeance.

From Book 3: Love can be a very dangerous thing.
At least it seems that way to Adri Pyper, the premier wedding planner in Sun Valley, Idaho. When one of her clients dies mysteriously, Adri takes the advice of the local detective and swears she will stay out of the investigation . . . this time. Luke Stetson's involvement in the case, along with the possibility of a kiss between the two, should be enough incentive to keep Adri out of trouble. But when a dog-themed wedding is almost ruined by a suspect, Adri and her assistant, Lorea, are thrust into private eye mode. When poison enters the picture, even a reluctant sleuth can’t steer clear of danger.

The Zion Trail

by Marsha Ward

I cannot even imagine the fortitude of the early Saints.
Joining a religion that they felt a passion for only to be ostracized by friends and neighbors. Families being torn apart. Driven from homes and farms to travel across an entire country on foot or by wagon.
Yet, through it all the Lord sends his blessings.

Your heart will be touched with this tender telling of one young man who presses forward--no matter the cost.

On a hot summer day, young Elijah Marshall stops plowing to give a drink of water to two strangers and invite them to lunch with his family. His neighborly act sets in motion events that will drastically change his future.

The strangers share a new religion, which the family embraces. But the neighbors want no part of Mormons. Multiple acts of unkindness and starvation drive the Marshall family to flee to the Mormon city on the banks of the Mississippi River, Nauvoo.

Then the path of Elijah's life takes perilous detours, with twists and turns he never expected to make.

In a 19th century coming-of-age story ranging from Pennsylvania to the Great Salt Lake Valley, Elijah plunges into harrowing adventures filled with sorrow, danger, and romance.

This movie will definitely be a family favorite!

But now Mom has decided that the Buckley family is going to Elve the Hagbarts this year for Christmas.

Eleven-year-old Matthew can hardly stand it. By day the Hagbarts torture the Buckley brothers into submission, and by night the Buckleys secretly deliver Christmas treats and gifts to their sworn enemies.

Soon the war of wits escalates to an incredible scheme designed to get the ultimate revenge on the Hagbarts.

But now that Matthew has been learning that he's supposed to do good to those who hate him, what will he do when a little push becomes a great big shove?

Blissfully Married

by Victorine E. Lieske

I adore sweet, fun romances like this one!
Cute story line of bringing the past and the present together in an awkward way--so like true life. Oh, the things we do for love and pride. Sidney and Blake will quickly find a way into your heart. You will be anxious for each encounter they have together--such great writing! I have read every book in this series and have absolutely loved each one.

From NYT's best selling author of NOT WHAT SHE SEEMS.

Sidney’s matchmaking business is suffering. When her best friend convinces her to put on a fake engagement ring to boost customer confidence in her, she reluctantly agrees. Couldn’t hurt to try, right? And when her childhood crush comes walking in, she’s glad to have her fake engagement as an excuse not to get involved with him. He shattered her heart ten years ago, and she can’t take another painful Blake incident.

Blake can’t believe it when he sees Sidney, all grown up. She looks amazing. But she’s also off limits, or so he thinks. When he finds out she’s not really engaged, he’s confused as to why Sidney would lie to him. He makes it his goal to coax the truth out of her, even if he has to go to great lengths to do it.

Blissfully Married is a sweet romance, with no graphic content. This can be read as a stand-alone novel.
