Conversations with a Moonflower
by Christine Hall

It all begins with a little flower. This tenderly told story is a beautiful reminder to appreciate the simple joys around you. The perfect gift for even the busiest mothers and friends in your life, this book is guaranteed to change chaos to calm and inspire all to look beyond the ordinary and see the extraordinary.

Excerpt
Filled with memories, mystery, and forbidden rooms, Grandma's farmhouse was always like a museum to us as children. The farm had been in our family since the 1840's. My grandmother was born there in 1888. She later married, and she and my grandfather raised their two children there. Grandpa died in 1947, and Grandma lived the rest of her life in the home where she was born. She passed away in her own bed in May 1993 at the age of 105. The home passed to our father, and with his death in 2001, we knew the time had come to sell this beloved home and land that had been our family's gathering place all our lives.
And so my two sisters, my brother, and I gathered there one last time. We traveled across the country, bringing our spouses and some of our children to help us clean, sort, and eliminate the belongings of more than a century of living.
My husband and I and two of our children drove from Utah, towing a small trailer so we could take home my grandmother's cherished china cabinet. I knew that my sisters and brother and I would divide other treasures among us, but I never imagined that the most priceless treasure I would take home from that trip was something that didn't belong to my grandmother. It would, however, travel back across the country with me in her old, blue enamel dishpan. And it would change my life.

My Review
Going back home is always a tender thing...but going back home to gather all the belongings of a love one who has passed away and deciding what to do those belongings that hold such dear memories is an even more endearing task.

And so starts the job that Chris and her siblings have undertaken...

But while at her grandmother's house, an Amish neighbor invites the family over to watch the spectacular event of a moonflower opening....

This event leads Chris to taking home a moonflower that she plants in her own yard.

The lessons and conversations and neighbor visits this amazing plant brings to her life is so worth reading about!

It will really make you think about your own life--

A FANTASTIC BOOK!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE!
WOW! WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW GOOD THIS BOOK IS!

About the Author
Chris Hall maintains she is one of the most unlikely authors you will ever meet, as it was never in any of her life plans to write a book. Her writing experience began without forethought or intention on her part.

It started on a summer day, while she working in her flower beds. A thought came clearly into her mind—then another, and another. Ideas started coming to her so frequently that she finally decided to keep a yellow legal pad and pencil with her wherever she went so that she no longer had to resort to writing on the back of the receipts in her purse. No one could have been more amazed than she when she realized she was actually writing a book.

See my review of her latest book, The Song of My Father.

Chris is never happier than when she and her husband are surrounded by their eight children and spouses and their thirty-two grandchildren. She lives in Utah with her husband, Duane.

  1. Admittedly I was drawn in by the cover/title, but isn't that always the case with new-to-you authors? Anyway, your thoughts and the excerpt bode well for the content. I do believe this one may find a home on my wish list. Thanks for the share!
