FINDING SLEEPING BEAUTY
by Tarrah Montgomery

MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW...

In the meantime read her first book of
The Princess Chronicles ~ I'M NOT CINDERELLA

Chancing a closer look, I placed one foot on a packed-dirt floor of the kitchen. My other foot followed. I looked back at Cinderella - I mean Gabriella - who watched from the other side of the miraculous door. Behind her, I could still see the stacks of boxes in my grandmother's attic. Gazing into reality while standing in a fantasy was a pretty weird sensation.

Then, without warning, the door began to close. I scrambled to grab it, but something seemed to force it shut. Perhaps Gabriella, the supposedly sweet angel, had closed the door herself.

"Gabriella! Help me!"

Seventeen-year-old Brinlee is a modern girl living in Idaho. When she discovers a secret portal in her attic bedroom, she accidentally swaps places with the main character from her favorite fairy tale, cinderella. Lost in Cinderella's world, Brinlee threatens to ruin one of the world's greatest love stories. New mysteries surround the characters of the beloved tale, and Brinlee is determined to uncover the secrets. Once she entangles herself in the affairs of Cinderella's family and meets not one but two dashing men, can she keep this celebrated romance on track?

You'll love this fun reinvention of the classic Cinderella story.

STICK IN THE MUD MEETS SPONTANEITY
by Rachael Anderson

Stick in the Mud meets spontaneity
Home from college for the summer, Samantha Kinsey steps into her role as nanny for her two favorite little charges.

But when she finds herself playing chauffeur more than playmate, her summer outlook quickly turns from fun to bleak.

That is, until she drives the girls to a family-owned ranch and meets Colten McCoy—a genuine, hard-working cowboy, who's as set in his ways as he is handsome.

Although he claims he doesn't need any fun in his life, Sam’s determined to help him find it.

But she'll soon discover that cowboys are about as easy to train as wild mustangs.

 Stick in the Mud Meets Spontaneity is about an adaptable girl and a not so adaptable guy.

It’s about learning to accept people for who they are and realizing that sometimes who they are is exactly who they should be.

My Review
I so adore this series and how the author takes two completely opposite people and pulls them together in sweet romance.

The author also notes:

"I hope this story took you out of reality for awhile and into a world of escape and rejuvenation because everyone deserves that once in awhile."

This book truly does just that! I love that stories like this can whisk us away and help us see something different for a few moments each time we pick up the book.

I loved how the characters struggled to come together, but once they did they made the most of every moment...living in the moment and pushing the future aside for the time being.

I loved that the girl didn't give up on her dreams just to be with the guy...the hardest choices are between two good things...but I see how if she had stayed she would have always wondered and maybe even started to resent that she didn't try.

But I also love that the guy stood by her...once he got over his pride...

And wait until you read about what he does in the end...such a great scene on so many levels!

You will absolutely LOVE this book!
Make it a MUST-READ for your summer list!

I have read all three of the books in this series and highly recommend all of them!
Such great writing!
Such great stories!

A Splash of Kindness

A SPLASH OF KINDNESS
by John Starley Allen

"The things we do—even the little things we do, things as little as this pebble—create ripples kind of like the ones you see right now. Consequences, I suppose, is the grown-up word for it."

Discover how the little things you do make a big difference.

Filled with inspiring true stories of positive change, this uplifting book shows how small acts of goodness have a ripple effect and eventually change the world.

Excerpt
One morning, your grandfather finds you at the pigpen and beckons you to follow him.

"Where are we going?" you ask.

"Oh, there's just a little something I want to show you."

You walk past the chickens and the sheep. You pass some Angus cows in the pasture. In the far southwest corner of your grandfather's farm there is a pond, part of which is in the shade of an immense oak tree. The pond is smooth and offers a perfect reflection of the sky and the tree's sprawling limbs.

Standing at the edge of the water, your grandfather picks up a small pebble and tosses it into the center of the pond. There is a plop immediately followed by a soft splash.  Then the center of the pond, no longer smooth, becomes a series of ever-widening ripples. The reflected oak branches look as if they are being tousled by a playful wind.

"See those ripples? How far do you think they'll go out?" asks Grandpa.

"I don't know."

"Well, watch."

The ripples continue to expand. You look down just a little beyond your feet at the undulating, crystal-clear water. The ripples, lapping the pond's shore, end only when there is no more water.

Your grandpa looks at you studying the ripples--the ever-expanding concentric circles--and asks, "You reckon if the pond were bigger, the ripples would keep on going?"

You answer yes.

Grandpa throws in a couple more pebbles, and you watch the mesmerizing ripples. Then he gets that look in his eye--the look you've seen before--the look that says he's about to say something important and he's trying to find the right words. Finally he says, "You know, the things we do, even the little things we do--things as little as this pebble...," he raises his hand, showing the small stone held between his thumb and forefinger--"well, these things we do create ripples kind of like the ones you see right now. Consequences, I suppose, is the grown-up word for it."

He lets the pebble fly. It lands directly in the center of the pond.

You look at each other. There is nothing more for him to explain. And the look in your eyes tells him that you understand.

The Way Back to Heaven: The Parable of the Crystal Stairs

THE WAY BACK TO HEAVEN
by S. Michael Wilcox

Our earliest scripture tells the story of those who thought they could build a structure high enough to get to heaven, and of the consequences of that mistaken belief.

In contrast, the prophet Jacob dreamed of a ladder sent down from heaven by God, with rungs—steps—that we could ascend to return to Him.

In The Way Back to Heaven: The Parable of the Crystal Stairs, award-winning author S. Michael Wilcox helps us discern the "stairs of man" from the "stairs of God."

Using the metaphor of a beautiful crystal stairway, he shows us the difference between a focus on "being and becoming" and "believing and doing" in our life's journey.

While we may think we know the steps we'll need to take, the author suggests some unexpected—even counterintuitive—yet essential stairs each of us will encounter as we make our way back to our Father in Heaven.

My Review
How blessed we are that S. Michael Wilcox shares his immense knowledge and unique understanding with us...

As this is a "parable of the crystal stairs," Brother Wilcox teaches that sometimes we carry baggage that makes us too heavy for the crystal stairs to hold us...guilt, anger, sadness, envy, etc.

He also gives us insights on things we need to work on so that we might reach each one of the higher stairs.

We don't need to be all perfect all right now...

As we climb stair upon stair we will reach the One who made the stairs...

The One who has climbed before us and now turns to beckon us to come to Him.

So many things to ponder!
A PROFOUND and POWERFUL book!
This one will truly change your thinking and possible your way of doing/believing things.

About the Author
S. Michael Wilcox received his PhD from the University of Colorado and taught for many years at the LDS Institute of Religion adjacent to the University of Utah. He has spoken to packed crowds at BYU Education Week and has hosted tours to the Holy Land and to Church history sites. CALLAHAN CROSSROADS
by Anola Pickett

Grown-ups said us kids could help our country win. Eat more corn. Give up sugar. Buy Thrift stamps. Collect prune pits. After a whole year doing this sissy stuff, we still hadn’t won.

I wasn’t old enough to enlist, but this summer I’d do something dangerous. Something tough and brave.

Twelve-year-old George’s family won’t take him seriously. He’s ready to fight like a man on the front lines of the Great War, but instead he gets stuck on the home front, with nothing more exciting to do than look out for his younger sisters and elderly neighbor, Mrs. Schmitt.

But with no sign of victory in Europe, things are getting more and more tense at home, especially after George’s older brother makes a startling announcement.

Set in 1918 Kansas City, this old-fashioned family drama brings you to the heart of the World War I home front. Issue-driven and entertaining, it’s a coming-of-age story that will still resonate with readers today.

About the Author
Anola Pickett is a Kansas City native, and although she’s lived in Chicago, St. Louis and Massachusetts, she’s always come back home. The oldest of six children, she grew up in a family that emphasized the importance of reading and education. She began writing stories in the third grade and went on to become a teacher and school librarian. Now retired from the classroom, she devotes a big part of her day to writing and research for historical novels for young readers. She especially prizes the stories her parents and grandmother told about their growing-up years in Kansas City.

Pickett enjoys school and library visits to talk about her books and about the craft of writing. She and her husband Peter Doyle enjoy traveling, especially to Hong Kong, where they visit their son and daughter-in-law and a beautiful red-haired granddaughter!

The Kiss That Launched 1,000 Gifs
by Sheralyn Pratt

Each weekday from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Grace and Ashton cohost Battle of the Sexes, a radio program arguing the he-said/she-said issues of the day. Their fiery debates often have listeners wondering if there’s more to their relationship than just talk, even though Grace has been dating Phillip, Mr. Tall, Dark, and Perfect, since long before she ever met Ashton Miller.

Yet when news comes that Battle of the Sexes is on the bubble for cancellation, Grace and Ashton need to step up their efforts to engage their audience to keep the show alive. When a charity organization approaches them and proposes that the two of them kiss for a fund raiser, Grace and Ash agree to kiss for a good cause. A kiss is just a kiss, right?

Excerpt
“Good afternoon, and welcome to the newest edition of Battle of the Sexes,” Grace said, starting off the show. “With me today is the man who has just proven that the Instagram app is truly foolproof—my no-longer-technically challenged cohost, Ashton Miller.”

Ash leaned forward into the mic. “And with me is the woman I’ve recently learned feels compelled to alert the world via photograph every time she finds a pair of shoes she likes—the woman who takes the ‘anonymous’ out of Shopaholics Anonymous—my lovely cohost, Grace Vasquez.”

Grace was unapologetic. “A good pair of shoes is worth sharing.”

“Oh? Does that mean I should post pictures of my shoes?” Ash asked, picking up his phone and pressing the camera icon.

“You’re wearing hiking boots.”

“That’s right,” Ash said, putting his shoes up on the table and snapping a picture. “These are Salomon Quest 4D GTXes. I wear them any time I go on a shoot that requires some hiking. They’re light, durable, and provide great stability. Is that the sort of thing you share on Instagram?”

“Not really,” Grace said. “But I’m sure Salomon doesn’t mind the free advertising you just handed them.”

“Well, I’m totally posting a picture,” Ash said, in his best valley girl tone. “It’s not every day a man finds comfort, function, and fashion all in one shoe.”

“Indeed,” Grace replied. “I’m still waiting for that day to happen for you.”

Ash smiled against his will and set his phone to the side. He’d post the photo later. Grace was clearly in a mood that required his full attention. “So what are we talking about today? And, please, don’t let it be shoes!”

Grace glanced at her computer screen, giving Ash a view of her stunning profile. Seriously, how was her skin so smooth?

“Today the most up-voted topic is…” She blinked, looking confused. “Huh.”

“Huh?” Ash echoed, intrigued by the look of confusion on Grace’s face.

“Cupcakes,” she said.

“Cupcakes?”

Grace nodded and frowned at her monitor. “Why do men hate cupcakes? is the trending topic at the moment.” Grace looked Ash’s way, visibly confused. “Do men hate cupcakes?”

Is she really ready to jump into a new relationship when the last one ended so painfully? Will her divorce always define her? Is she the one with the problem?

As she wistfully observes others' love stories blossoming around her, Sophia must decide whether she's prepared to take another chance on love. Luke's return from Europe forces Sophia to confront the decision she's not sure she's prepared for—will her troubled past destroy the happy ending of which she's always dreamed?

My review
I REALLY LIKE THIS BOOK!

Our lives are filled with up and downs, drama and blessings, family and friends, good and bad...It is these experiences that shape who we are and how we react to future events.

Sometime we get so caught up in the trauma of our lives that we overlook all the good that is surrounding us...We can move past the bad and grow or we can hold on to the past and remain captive...it is up to us.

This book portrays this beautifully!
I loved how real it is!

I really feel for Sophia and all she has gone through.
And I so adore Luke and his willingness to stand by her no matter what.

But love cannot be forced--

OH. SUCH. A. GOOD. BOOK!

I have always loved to write. I have also always had an overactive imagination, which helps ALOT when making up fictional stories. In real life there aren't any do-overs. But in fiction there is editing, revising and good ol' deleting. In fiction, I can make my characters be anything or do anything I want. (I think that's called manipulating in real life). It makes me love the possibilities.

Freetown

0 comments
A review copy was provided

Caught in the middle of a brutal civil war, six Liberian missionaries in Monrovia flee the widespread violence of their native country.

Their destination: Freetown, Sierra Leone.

With the help of local Church leader Phillip Abubakar (Henry Adofo), the missionaries make the difficult journey only to have their troubles compounded by a rebel fighter bent on killing one of
their own.

Based on true events, Freetown is a thrilling and inspiring story of hope and survival.

My Review
I absolutely LOVE movies based on true accounts!

And when it is portrayed as well as this one is you really feel the emotions of the people involved!

As you watch this show you will realized that we take SO MUCH for granted--

I cannot even imagine having to flee for your safety--possibly even your life.

And to watch people gunned down right in front of you--

And then to watch the faith of these missionaries-- they just wanted somewhere they could teach.

So many miracles took place for them to make it to Freetown that at one point they realized that they could doubt no longer-- the Lord would continue to bless them.

I was intrigued that even on the run these missionaries still found ways to share the gospel.

On the back car window there is a scripture reference of Mark 9:24

When I looked it up this is what I found:

"And straightway the father of the child cried out,
and said with tears, Lord, I believe;
help thou mine unbelief."

This movie theme shows just that-- no matter how bad it gets we just have to keep moving forward and have hope in the future.

A PHENOMENAL FILM!
SO WORTH SEEING!
I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND IT!

My Review
I LOVE THIS SERIES!

Planning a wedding is hard enough...but throw in a little sabotage, a little suspicion, a little family drama...and it just got a whole lot harder.

But Adri is up for the task and will not run away or quit. She fights right back and does some sleuthing on her own to put this matter behind her so that the wedding can go on as planned...or as close to planned as expected :)

Absolutely loved all the twists and turns in the plot!
Kept me guessing until the real villain was revealed!

Run away to paradise with Adri and buckle in for the ride of your life...OR...her life as the case may be.

A DEFINITE MUST READ!
SO. SO. SO. GOOD!

Meet Author Dennis Maley

0 comments
Dennis Maley grew up in Kansas and resides in Oklahoma. He and his reading teacher spouse have two great kids and three wonderful grandchildren.

He was the preacher in his kindergarten’s production of “The Tom Thumb Wedding.” In first grade, his mother scolded him for being Chairman of the Entertainment Committee. To his credit, the post was merely honorary, he served without compensation, and as the title “Chairman” implies, he always collaborated. He sang and bet Phileas Fogg he couldn’t circumnavigate the world in eighty days in his senior class play. He’s presently learning to play banjo. But he sings, dances, acts, tells jokes too poorly to make a living at it. The same is true of golf and poker.

His vocation, income tax, taught him how people behave under stress.

Fun Little Known Facts by Dennis Maley

My wife, a schoolteacher, is my hero. She taught underprivileged kids to read, and her devotion to literacy inspired elements of "Three Links Of Chain."

My daughter was valedictorian, graduated college summa cum laude, and Phi Beta Kappa. But actually everyone within earshot already knows that.

I'm teaching myself to play the 5-string banjo. I don't play "Scruggs style," instead I'm learning an old-time style called "clawhammer."

I'm left-handed but always played baseball right-handed. I have an unfit shoulder and my golf suffered so I had to re-learn the game left-handed. I still putt righty and play the banjo righty.

I don't drive much. My main wheels are a pickup truck that's 18 years old and still has less than 100K miles. The tranmission is manual and it has no air conditioner.

I sold stuff door-to-door starting when I was in fourth grade, mostly tomatoes I grew myself. I don't like tomatoes all that much.

Two summers in a row, I worked in a grain elevator during wheat harvest. Among my duties, I was supposed to yell "WHOA-oo" when the haulers' end gate was over the floor grate. When harvest was over, I baled hay and plowed. None of these occupations required me to exercise my trigonometry skills. Machines have rendered all these jobs obsolete, except maybe the part about yelling "WHOA-oo."

Growing up in small town Kansas, the first African Americans I ever went to school with were two boys, both freshmen when I was a senior. I suspect "whites only" water fountains were around, but I'm just lucky. I never saw them.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dennis authored Three Links Of Chain, a novel for middle grades and young adults, about a literate slave boy’s flight for freedom, published by Jublio.
The flyer reads, “One dark mulatto runaway, aged fourteen, well dressed and bright…”
Blanche thinks he has it good. He has risen above the field hands to a position helping run a printing press. He’s well fed, never physically mistreated, and he has taught himself to read, though he keeps the illicit skill a secret. Most importantly, he has been promised a chance at emancipation. Then, in a single bloody morning, his world is overturned, his master lies dead, and his widow has no intention of following through with her husband’s promise to free him.
Blanche would never have considered running away from his old life, but faced with the prospect of being sold as a laborer or worse, he forges his free papers and flees north, a fugitive, to create his own future. Only a few steps ahead of the slave catchers, he travels hundreds of miles across the violent backdrop of “bleeding Kansas” in the 1850s, a land torn by apart by two very different visions of humanity.
This richly researched work of fiction weaves actual historical characters and institutions into the gripping story of a young man born into slavery but resolute in his quest for freedom.
“...an excellent piece of children’s literature and a summer read that parents will approve.”
-Jerry Vannatta, co-author of The Chief Concern of Medicine
“Both the story and the main character had my interest from very early on in the book. The events and emotions did come across splendidly..”
-Margaret Faria, author of The Literary Chanteuse Book Blog
“This quest for freedom by a slave boy is a great story… thumbs up to Dennis Maley.
-A Journey With Books Review
“Three Links of Chain is more than a story about a slave boy who wants to be free. It is also a story about people trying to change a system… either way, the main thing is that it is a great story and you should read it.”
WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG
by Pamela S. Williams
John Marchbanks and Lainie McGuire are two never-marrieds in their late thirties, both active in the LDS Church. He’s the attorney who incorporates her new reception-center business. A convert, talented artist, pianist, actor in community theater, and Primary teacher, John lives on the East Bench of Provo. Lainie, a life-long Church member and dedicated people person, volunteers for good causes and serves the elderly Single Adults in her west Provo ward. She’s a breast-cancer survivor who appreciates every day, even a bad one.
Just as John realizes he loves Lainie, he is diagnosed with malignant melanoma. What they learn about themselves and each other through his treatment and recovery makes them see they’ve wasted too much time already. Life is really all about living it up, celebrating the joys and sweetness of life while they can—together.
My Review
Another great book by this AMAZING author!
We were given a brief touch of Lainie and John's story in the book Living It Down-- and at the time I so wanted to know more about them and could just see them truly getting together.
How pleased I was to get a whole book about them :)
Their stories are parallel and beautifully blended all at the same time. They are both older and a little settled in their ways, wanting love in their lives-- just struggling to let go of some past issues.
Some of which is cancer--
Lainie is now 5-years cancer free, but now John has been diagnosed with it.
Can Lainie help John?
Will John let her?
Can their hearts heal as much as needed?
A VERY WONDERFUL READ!
As the author says "If you like a grown-up love story, you'll like this book."
The most interesting fact about this book is that the author herself was diagnosed with cancer the very day this book hit the shelves-- You can read about her journey on her blog: http://pamwrite.blogspot.com/
About the Author
Pamela Stott Williams is a native of Portland, Oregon, and a graduate of Brigham Young University. She has been a newspaper reporter, writing teacher, poet, playwright, essayist, editor, novelist and member of the League of Utah Writers and an LDS women's writers group, ANWA, the American Night Writers Association, so named because women writers often find time to write mostly after the children have gone to bed. Pam has won contest prizes from both groups for her work. She feels a particular calling to speak to Latter-day Saint readers about the challenges of being alive and living the gospel. As the nearly OCD Queen of Tweak, she rarely begins a sentence with "the," and shuns question marks at the end of rhetorical questions. Pam and her husband Roger currently reside in Provo, Utah, but have lived on Guam, in Iran, in Navajoland, and most recently spent thirty-three years in Richfield, Utah. Pam and Roger are the parents of three and grandparents of seven.
THE SHEIK'S RUBY
by Jennifer Moore
Shelby wants to break away from the mold of her small town and make a name for herself in the big-city journalism world. While skiing, she meets mysterious stranger Hakim who is actually the prince of the Middle Eastern kingdom of Khali-dar. When his enemies learn of Hakim’s connection to an American girl, they target Shelby. Fleeing to the safety of Khali-dar, Shelby falls deeper in love not only with the prince, but with his country. As she struggles to survive terrorist attacks, withstand the Sheik’s prejudice, and find her place in a world she doesn’t understand, she must choose which life she is willing to sacrifice—the comfortable one she has worked so hard to create, or the one with the man she loves.
Excerpt
“Does your father know you’re asking me?”
Hakim gazed over her shoulder and took a deep breath. “He knows.”
“But he doesn’t want me to come, right?”
“I will bring a companion of my choice tomorrow.” He locked his gaze onto Shelby’s and leaned toward her. “You are my choice. Will you please come?”
The Sheik apparently doesn’t buy into the whole “guests are gifts from Allah” idea. “Of course, I would love to come.” She smiled, but knew it didn’t appear convincing. She hated feeling like she was the source of their discord.
“You are nervous. Please do not feel uncomfortable.”
“I’m worried I’ll say or do something stupid.” She winced. “I’m not exactly a refined debutante who knows how to act in formal situations. I don’t want to embarrass you, Hakim.”
“I do not want you to be a refined debutante. I have spent enough time with those people to know they are not what I want.”Hakim maneuvered his horse until he faced Shelby and their legs were nearly touching. He leaned closer, his gaze earnest. “What I want is you, Shelby Jo.” He cupped her cheek in his hand.
Shelby felt her heart flutter and her nerve endings tingle as she lost herself in the deep brown pools of his eyes.
His thumb stroked her skin, leaving a trail of heat in its wake. He slid his hand into her hair and drew her closer, his lips covering hers.
When she drew away, Shelby inhaled deeply and grinned. “Hearing you put it that way, how could I possibly refuse?”
My Review
I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED THIS BOOK!
OF COURSE I LOVE ANYTHING JENNIFER MOORE WRITES!
FUN! FANTASTIC! ADVENTURES! ROMANCE!
I loved the playful teasing and competition between Shelby and Hakim, especially before she knows who he really is.
And wait until you read about how the prince who was raised with different values, especially when it come to women, reacts in the informality of American ways.
You will so marvel at the strong and silent bodyguard, Nasir, and how he often questions the prince's choice, but never goes against it and how Shelby never even figures out who this lingering-in-the-shadows-friend is...until much later.
So many fun scenes!
And then when trouble comes go along Hakim whisks Shelby away to his homeland...wow! Can it get any more exciting? Any more exotic? Any more thrilling? Any more dangerous?
Can Shelby get used to the lifestyle Hakim wants her to live?
And can Hakim have it all or will he have to choose "between his heart and his duty?"
SO. LOVED. THIS. BOOK!
