FAVORITE QUOTES~

"Be perfect in Christ ~ instead of being perfect for Christ"

"I used the shield of optimism to protect against the rejection, exhaustion, and depression that can accompany missionary work. Optimism can protect you from darkness. It can pull you to the sunlight where things grow...I ride the roller coaster of life with both hands in the air."

About the Authors
Elise Babbel Hahl served in the Brazil Manaus mission, located in the heart of the Amazon, where she learned the real meaning of humility and humidity. Afterward, she completed her studies in English at Stanford University, married her mission pen pal, and went on to earn a master’s degree in writing from Johns Hopkins University. Her work has been published in Choosing Motherhood,Whereabouts: Stepping Out of Place, Education Next magazine, and recorded on “The World in Words” podcast. She lives with her husband and four children in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area.
Jennifer Rockwood Knight thrives on action, whether it’s raising her four children, writing, running, teaching, or traveling abroad. She recently finished a thesis examining declining church attendance among Christian singles in the United States, which culminated in a master’s in liberal arts in extension studies from Harvard University. After that arduous pursuit, her husband, Kurt, now tries to encourage more relaxing activities like knitting and sleeping. It doesn’t work.

John Bytheway, Laurel Christensen, John Hilton III, Jennifer Platt, Hank Smith, Anthony Sweat and Brad
Wilcox have come together for another FABULOUS book for teens! This time a focus on preparing for a mission...as the age level has been lowered :)

Elder Holland has said "The Lord needs more missionaries and He needs better prepared missionaries."

This book will help with that! Each author has taken a verse from the 4th section of the Doctrine and Covenants and expounded upon it.

Sprinkled throughout the book are QR codes that will link you to some fun video clips...(if you are like me and don't have a "smart phone" they also give you the long-hand link :)

Watch this clip of Laurel Christensen, Brad Wilcox, and some prospective missionaries as they discuss the Christlike attributes that missionaries need to acquire...

The following great chapters are in this book:
1. The Lord's Marvelous Work
2. Give It Everything You've Got
3. I'll Be What You Want Me to Be
4. Thrusting In Our Sickle
5. The Essential Credentials
6. I'm Trying to Be Like Jesus
7. Ask and Ye Shall Receive

Whether you are preparing for a formal mission or just want to be a better everyday member missionary this book is a wonderful read!

10 Questions to Answer While Preparing For a Mission

If you are planning on going on a mission you need to read this book!

If you know someone who is planning on going on a mission you need to have them read this book!

If you just got back from your mission you need to read Chapter 9 of this book!

I WISH I COULD JUST COPY DOWN EVERY WORD FROM THIS BOOK SO YOU COULD READ IT RIGHT NOW~~ YES~~ IT REALLY IS  THAT GOOD!

In the introductin the author states:

"Young men (and women), if you are ready to
serve the Master, you can do so at an earlier age, but that necessitates that you are prepared earlier than ever before. Now is the time to arise and shine forth! You cannot afford to wait to think about your mission until after high school anymore."

So what are the 10 quesions?

1. Do I have a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

2. Do I have "an eye single to the glory of God"?

3. Am I ready to work hard for over sixty hours a week?

4. Do I understand how to feel and recognize the Spirit?

5. Am I clean and worhty to represent the Lord?

6. Am I prepared to enter the temple?

7. Am I ready to face the opposition?

8. Do I know what success really means?

9. Do I have a plan for when I come home?

10. Am I truly ready to serve the Lord?

BEFORE you answer any of these questions read the insights, stories, and examples in the book to help you really understand what the question entails.

I think EVERYONE needs to read this book...not only to help you prepare to serve a mission, but to help you understand if you are truly converted to the gospel and ready to help further the work of the Lord.

The Power of Everyday Missionaries

Take everything you have ever learned about being a "member missionary" and then re-think it through this book.

Sometimes we know WHAT we need to do
But we just don't know HOW to do it.

Clayton Christensen helps us understand the HOW of being a member missionary through some simple techniques.

Here are just a few:

1. Do not judge who YOU think will be receptive...leave that to the Lord.
2. Use Gospel-lingo in everyday conversations...it will open up natural conversations.
3. Share the truth...it is really that simple.
4. Set goals and deadlines...it is easy to say "I'll do it tomorrow." But tomorrow never comes.
5. Become a "virtual missionary" by posting a blog or answering questions on blogs.

This book also has some AMAZING insights for EVERYONE on HOW to pray, study the scriptures and how to keep the Sabbath Day holy.

Great stories to illustrate the principles taught and a powerful testimony at the end.
