Excerpt
Do you know there is a science of gratitude?
...having a thankful heart and an attitude of gratitude produces many positive benefits. Among them are results like becoming more socially acceptable, improving health, giving a boost to career and professional aspirations, stabilizing emotions, reducing narcissistic tendencies and self-centeredness, dramatically elevating self-esteem over time, improving relaxation and helping sleep patterns, adding productive longevity to life, increasing energy levels, promoting positive marriage relationships, and even attending to our appearance and how we look to others. The list goes on; deepening friendships, improving management skills, making social networking more productive and fulfilling, increasing productivity, improving decision-making, and reducing the negative impact adversity has on our lives.

My Review
I have mentioned before that I went through a very hard, dark depression for a few months.
But in that devastating period I learned the power of gratitude!

So when I saw this book I knew I had to read it for I am a firm believer in how impactful a grateful heart can be on your life and your health.

I also LOVE "31-day books"-- where you can spend the whole month studying, underlining, and pondering.

I have been studying the "attitude of gratitude" for about 9 years now and I actually learned some new things from this book--

I was also reminded of some gratitude that I still have to work on :)

This book gives you thoughts, quotes, examples, questions, and scriptures to increase your understanding.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED studying this book!
It is SO WORTH reading!

My Favorite Quotes
"Gratitude is the feeling itself. That is in the heart. Thankfulness is measured by the number of words; gratitude is measured by the nature of our actions. Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude; gratitude the completion of thankfulness." - David O. McKay

"When we give thanks in all things, we see hardships and adversities in the context of the purpose of life." - Dallin H. Oaks

"Isn't it interesting that Heavenly Father has given us the main ingredient for our pursuit of happiness-- that which He knows His children want the most. To be happy, let's begin with keeping the commandment to be thankful and grateful for all things." - David A. Christensen

DO NOT PUT THIS OFF-- Grab a copy and start your own "attitude of gratitude."

About the Author
David A. Christensen’s love and enthusiasm for being a missionary was sparked in a missionary preparation class at Ricks College in the late 60s. His love and testimony for the Book of Mormon was ignited in a religion class the following semester. These two classes combined as a new beginning for what would one day become not only a passion but also the centerpiece of his professional contribution in the Church Education System and at Brigham Young University–Idaho.

10 FUN FACTS ABOUT THE AUTHOR
1. I played on my high school and college basketball teams and could dunk a basketball until age 53.

2. I grew up on a farm and for fun I would hypnotize chickens with my brothers.

3. I was the designated "hair highlighter" for several of my teenage daughters (using box kits).

4. One of my bucket-list goals is to be an extra in movie.

5. I returned from my mission to Mexico City with 4 types of Typhoid and having lost 50 lbs.

6. I was always the one to take our eight children shopping for school clothes in the Fall while my wife had a much-deserved break.

7. I have always enjoyed early mornings and using that time for studying, exercise, playing early morning basketball, yard work, walks with my Sweetheart, watching the sunrise, or listening to birds sing. I love this peaceful time of day.

8. I was very shy and quiet in my youth.

9. I met my wife on the playground when we were both ten years old. We went 'steady' for a short period of time, all thanks to a friend who delivered messages back and forth between us -- we rarely spoke to each other during that time.

10. As a parent, I greatly enjoy making traditions and memories with and for my children...and now my grandchildren.

Power in Prayer

Book Details
Author: David A. Christensen
Release Date: April 2014
Publisher: Cedar Fort, Inc.
Genre: Inspiration

Interestingly enough this book came at a time when I really needed it!

I started feeling ill late one evening and before I even got into bed I knew that I was going to be up all night with the illness.

As I was praying for relief I started to read this book...an intriguing thing to be reading about prayer while praying.

It made me really think about my prayers and how I pray and what I pray for...

This book is AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL!

The author gives "31 teachings to strengthen our connection with Heaven."

Within each teaching there are "daily guides-- with insights from General Authorities, scriptures, personal experiences, and commentary, that will enrich and empower your prayers."

Many of us know that "there is no appointment necessary" for prayers...

I was so grateful for that because I was praying from about 10pm to 5am...not your standard scheduling time frame.

But do we realize that when the Lord seems to give us NO ANSWER he is really answering with "you are trusted."

"Elder Richard G. Scott teaches -- that we should express gratitude when no answers come."

Do we pray "only in times of crisis?"

Do we "allow our weaknesses to keep us from connecting with Heaven?"

Do we understand "the power of music" as a form of prayer?

How does gratitude play into prayer?

And "can one do evil with a prayer on their lips?"

SO MANY THINGS TO PONDER IN THIS BOOK!

You can read it in one night like I did...OR...You can read one chapter a day for a month.

PHENOMENAL INSIGHTS!
POWERFUL TEACHINGS!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!
