The Girl at the Gate

Following the traditional "Twelve Days of Christmas"
Wholesome Romance will feature each of
Covenant's Jan-May 2022 releases.

DAY ONE - The Girl at the Gate by Anita Stansfield - Coming January 2022

Vivian Peyton and Theodore Weatherby could not be more different: she is a penniless orphan, raised in humble circumstances by her grandfather, and he is the cold-hearted nephew of a wealthy widow. One common thread connects these strangers—the same shipwreck took their parents’ lives. But the commonality has left Theo with a simmering hatred for the Peyton family. Or what’s left of it.

As Vivian’s grandfather’s health begins to decline, he takes to telling her stories of his life. So when Vivian learns of her grandfather’s first love, she vows to find the woman and reunite the star-crossed couple. There is, however, a complication: the woman is none other than the aunt of Theo Weatherby, whose disdain for Vivian is palpable. Even as their elderly relatives rekindle the ill-fated romance of their youth, Theo and Vivian are thrown into a complicated association as hostilities battle with a growing attraction that catches them both off guard. But not all is as it seems, and just as the tentative new couple begins to accept their feelings for each other, an unexpected arrival threatens to tear them apart.

THE ANGEL OF GREY GARDEN
by Anita Stansfield

Samuel Blackwood will never love again. Following the untimely death of his wife, the grieving Earl of Grey Manor knows there will never be room in his heart for another. Yet, in spite of his reluctance to seek a wife, Samuel knows his children need a mother. A garden party at the estate gives him the perfect opportunity to meet the local young ladies who might fill that role in his children's lives. Everyone is in attendance—everyone, that is, except one gentle young woman . . .

Constance Wright has endured whispers and horrified stares her entire life. Rejected by strangers for her appearance, she's grown accustomed to a sequestered existence in her parents' cottage on the vast grounds of Grey Manor. So when a party invitation arrives from the manor, there is no question—she refuses to attend.

Determined to meet his missing party guest, Samuel quickly finds himself drawn to Constance, a lovely woman with an unconventional appearance. Her sweet nature and immediate camaraderie with his children slowly begin to break down his defenses. Despite himself, he can see a future with Constance—but is he prepared to give her the love she deserves?

My Thoughts
I completely adored this book! It was especially intriguing how Samuel and Constance came together and the interaction between Constance and Samuel's children is so heart-warming. The theme of the "angel in the garden" is inspiring. So many wonderful moments! I highly recommend this book! I LOVED IT!

ALL HEARTS COME HOME FOR CHRISTMAS
by Sarah M. Eden, Anita Stansfield,
Esther Hatch, and Joanna Barker

Christmas at Falstone Castle by Sarah M. Eden

The Dowager Duchess of Kielder eagerly anticipates spending Christmas with her son and his family. Though their relationship has been strained, the duchess is determined to heal the chasm. Even with the help of the widowed local vicar, her plan will take a Christmas miracle. But during this magical season, anything is possible . . . even two second chances for love.

The Heart of Christmas by Anita Stansfield

When a chance meeting brings together a gentle seamstress and a widowed banker, each lonely soul finds a first hint of hope. As their lives become entwined, it will take Christmas spirit to guide a broken family to love and healing.

'Tis the Season to Be Daring by Esther Hatch

Elizabeth Davenport has had quite enough of the London Season. Determined to evade a parade of unsuitable suitors, she seeks help from the one gentleman who has no regard for Society's rules. All of Society knows Lord Hawthorne is not interested in marriage, yet he cannot deny Miss Davenport's unique charm. And as the Christmas season works its magic, their charade begins to feel less like playacting and more like love.

The Christmas Dress by Joanna Barker

Seamstress Nell Addington is thrilled when her childhood friend Jacob Hammond commissions a dress for his sister. But when Nell realizes her feelings for Jacob run far deeper than friendship, an unexpected snowstorm—and some holiday cheer—may convince them both that love is worth fighting for.

My Thoughts
I simply adore books like this where multiple authors come together to give short stories that fit perfectly into busy schedules. I loved reading about hearts mending, families gathering, and romance growing. Every page will bring joy to your soul and a smile to your face. Each story is splendidly unique with a blended theme of hope and healing that comes so willingly with the holiday season. Grab a copy of this delightful book and allow your heart to "come home for Christmas." I LOVED IT!
