I am really liking these "Proper Romance" stories Josi S. Kilpack is putting out-- very interesting to read the love stories of some of the more famous people from our history. I was so excited to learn the love story of Harriet Beecher Stowe. I didn't know much about her and have such a greater appreciation now. 
I really liked this book! Wonderfully written!

Fenton groaned and put his saucer back on the tray, making an instantaneous decision that eased his mind quite a lot. To look at every woman he met as a potential wife was irritating, and after only two weeks he was quite tired of it. Perhaps the solution was to orchestrate a match that would not lay all aspects of matrimony at his feet all at once. Perhaps treating it as a business arrangement would help it to be exactly that, thereby freeing him from all the discomfiting realities he was not yet prepared to face. “I leave for Fentonview on Tuesday and shan’t be back for a week. Lady Chariton looked confused and perhaps a bit concerned. “I do, but-”

“Then that is good enough for me,” Fenton said, rising to his feet and smiling broadly at his mother, who stared back at him in surprise. “I do find her appealing and what’s more she is not a silly little thing without a practical thought in her head.”

His mother’s eyes widened and her eyebrows rose upon her forehead. Fenton struck a pose of consternation, with his thumb and forefinger on his chin as he looked toward the window a moment, then nodded crisply and turned back to his mother who still looked shocked by his pronouncement.

“Yes, I think that Alice Stanbridge is exactly what I should like in a wife, and so I shall see to it before I leave for Hampshire-I see no reason to wait until Michaelmas and might as well get it over with.” He leaned in and kissed his mother’s hand. “Thank you for your help, Mama. I shall let you know how she responds to my proposal.”

My Review

Another GREAT Regency Romance from Josi S. Kilpack!

I so feel for Lord Fenton--wanting to be his own man, harboring resentment towards his father, trying to please is mother, holding back feelings for Alice in case he takes after his father--thinking he knows what he needs to do and then wondering if he made the right choice--SUCH GOOD WRITING!

And Alice--I so adore her! She is in love and has been for a very long time and then HE chooses HER--can life be any greater?! But only to find out that it is all just a ruse--But she is not going to back down--She will become the woman that women will envy-----even if it breaks her heart.

But life and comforts get all turned upside down and question arise when Alice accompanies Lady Chariton to Foxcroft---

Such a fabulous story!

Curl up with this FANTASTIC READ to escape into another time and another place! LOVED. LOVED. LOVED. IT!

My Review

Josi S. Kilpack is one of the very few authors who can write well in multiple genres. We were sad to see the Sadie mystery series end, but what a wonderful treat to read this new Regency Romance from Josi. I especially LOVED the twist she added in with Amber's predicament! And the many different ways she tried to compensate for it. Such a FUN and MOVING READ! Very well done! I HIGHLY recommend this one!

Josi you have written an AMAZING series and many people have fallen in love with Sadie. Will you please answer a few questions about the series for us~

What is your favorite Sadie moment and from which book?
Probably the epilogue from Wedding Cake. I wrote it just after Fortune Cookie, before I even had the story together for Wedding Cake. I don't want to give it away, but I chuckled and chuckled to myself as I put together Sadie's plan for the future.

What is your favorite Sadie location and from which book?
Probably Portland. I had driven through that city for the first time after I wrote English Trifle and knew I wanted to write a book there. After Blackberry Crumble was done I was able to take my family there for a visit and it was a really fun trip. It's a beautiful place with quirky details that I loved; little aspects of culture that were so interesting to me. I keep telling my husband that it's somewhere I could live if he ever decides he wants a change of scenery.

What is your favorite recipe and from which book?
A lot of the recipes in the books are favorites of mine that I have made for years and was able to work into a story, a lot of other ones were provided from my test kitchen over the years. It's hard to choose just one so I'll point out a few :-) The Devil's Food Cake is a recipe from my maternal grandmother that my mom made all my life and I have made over and over again. It is my go-to chocolate cake recipe. The recipe I make the most is the pancakes from Pumpkin Roll--it's one I developed myself from a variety of other pancake recipes and the reason that I always have buttermilk in my fridge. I absolutely love the Lemon Tea Cookies from English Trifle as well as the Crumpets from that book too. I could go on and on--there isn't a single recipe in the entire series that I don't like and I make many of them on a regular basis. I'm so excited to have the cookbook so that I don't have to use the printed off PDFs any more :-)

What is your favorite book cover?
My favorite cover is Fortune Cookie. I love the crispness and the black and red contrasts--it feels very mysterious to me and it was love at first sight!

Which scene was the hardest to write and why and from what book?
The final scene in Wedding Cake was the hardest scene for me to write. It did not happen originally the way it happened in the book, but even then there was so much going on, so many people, such a need for solid setting and realism. I spent a lot of time on that scene, and then had some major revisions to do after my editor looked at it. I need it to move fast but be clear--and it was the LAST scene of the whole series so it was really important that I get it right.

Which book was the easiest to write and why and from what book?
I suppose the easiest book was Baked Alaska. My husband and I were able to take an Alaskan cruise and I did a ton of brainstorming on the trip to plan out the story. It had it's own challenges in that it was such a "closed" set but that also gave me the chance to work in a lot of details that I don't usually have access too. It was a lot of fun to be feel as though I was right where the story would take place.

Anything else you want to share with us about this amazing series that we so love?
Just that I'm so glad so many people have enjoyed Sadie with me. I did not intend it to be a series at all when I wrote the first book, and then it went from two to three to five to seven to ten and finally to twelve. The ONLY reason I was able to make a 12 book series is because readers loved Sadie and wanted more. There are no words to properly communicate how validating it is to know that so many people took this journey with me and enjoyed Sadie so much. I will forever be grateful for this experience and owe it to the readers who made it happen.

Just when you think YOU have solved the case, Josi Kilpack throws in a new twist and keeps you guessing....The details are so amazing you feel like you are on the cruise ship right along with the characters...
And the recipes are to-die-for :)
Make sure to read clear to the end for an even sweeter twist in the story!
You will laugh, you will sweat, you will cry, you will cheer!
