My Pride, His Prejudice

MY PRIDE, HIS PREJUDICE
by Jenni James

When Will Darcy proposes out of the blue, Eliza Bennet's world comes crashing down. Of course she tells him no, but why would he ask her in the first place? Haven’t they always been enemies? For the past year, Eliza has worked for Will's company, Revolutionary Innovations, as an efficiency expert. Her whole goal has been to raise profits, finish her contract, and then get out. She assumed Will wanted the same, but now she's not so sure. And more importantly, she has begun to wonder if she made a mistake in telling him no.

Excerpt
The handsome man knelt down on one knee in front of her on her entranceway tile and reached into his chest pocket. "I was saying--"
"No!" She put her fingers over his to prevent him from pulling out the inevitable ring. A warm, solid hand met hers, and Eliza quickly pulled away. "I...er...I just meant that maybe you shouldn't get too excited. I really don't think we'd work out as a couple."
Will Darcy, Salt Lake City's hottest and wealthiest bachelor, gave her a strange look. "What do you mean, we wouldn't work out?"
There was no way he was serious. She wanted to roll her eyes, but didn't. "I'm assuming you haven't had very many women turn you down for anything, have you?"
He cleared his throat and slowly made his way back to a standing position. "So...are you turning me down?"
Now that they were both standing, she couldn't help but notice just how very tall he was, or how broad his shoulders actually were. Good grief--no wonder so many women fell for his charm. The man was like a cover-model-movie-god. Ugh. She hated his type. Eliza took a deep breath. "Yes, I am. But I'd like to thank you for the...er...amazing honor this is."
"Wait." He tilted his head. "Are you saying you had no idea I felt this way?"
She nearly choked. "About me? That you wanted to marry me? Uh--no." Like that would've ever entered her mind. They could barely stand to be around each other, let alone snuggle next to each other at night. Oh. My. Word. She shuddered. That was the closest she would ever get to that image again. Yeesh.
He put his hands in his pockets and nodded. "Nice. I start to propose, and not only do you reject me, but you shudder as you do it."
Her jaw dropped slightly. What is going on? "What am I supposed to do? I thought you despised me. But more importantly than that--why? Why me? Why now?" Elizabeth looked around and raised her hands, palms up. There had to be a camera somewhere, right? "Is--is this a joke?"
"No, Eliza, it isn't a joke. He rubbed his face and stared off into the distance. She could see his emotional wall going up between them like an iron wedge.
He couldn't be serious. "Wait! Just answer me."

My Review
I LOVE JENNI JAMES' BOOKS! Everything she writes is FANTASTIC!

This is a DARLING story! A PERFECT twist on the Jane Austen book!

While you still get the story of a family with unwed daughters and you read of Jane and Elizabeth and of course there is Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy...This story is set in modern times.

But love is love no matter what and sometimes people do marry for greed of someone else's money.

And sometimes girls and boys (and men and women) just don't understand what is really going on in the other person's mind...And that makes for GREAT READING!

My favorite quote:

"So this is what love was. This unbelievable urge to help when needed, to car for, and uplift, and worry over, and tease, and argue, and miss. It'd only been four or five hours, but she missed him."

This story will leave you smiling for a long time!
SO. SO. SO. LOVED. IT!

About the Author
I never knew what I was missing when my mom first gave me a collection of Jane Austen's works for Christmas. I believe I was fourteen at the time. One glance at the title Pride and Prejudice and I vowed I would never read the book. But, to be nice I placed it on my 'favorites' shelf; and there it sat for approximately two and a half years. Every month or so Mom would ask me if I had read it yet, and guiltily I would reply, "No. One day I will."

Then low and behold, the summer I was sixteen I had completely exhausted EVERY book I owned and almost all of my siblings' books, as well. (There were 5 siblings--not an easy feat I tell you!) With a desperate case of boredom and hair-pulling-cabin-fever anxiety, I finally, grudgingly brought down the book. I went ahead and started with Pride and Prejudice, just to prove to myself it wasn't worth the time.

One and a half days later, I finished. Sleep deprived, hungry and exhausted, but I finished! It was officially the first book I couldn't put down! It was SO amazing! Afterwards, I devoured every one of Jane Austen's novels, and I haven't stopped since.

Now, as my own daughter gets closer to this wonderfully draining attempt at teenhood, I wanted to share the same stories with her, but in a way she can relate to. I began to rewrite (More like channel) Pride & Popularity in the middle of March and was finished in just 6 weeks! All 25 chapters. It was such an amazing experience. Before I had even begun the long editing process new characters started to talk to me and hound me into writing their stories too.

I have 7 rambunctious kiddos and when I'm not chasing my kids around the house, I'm dreaming of new amazing stories to write!

Book Details
Author: Jenni James
Release Date: August 2014
Publisher: Trifecta Books

I LOVE this intro...

"The brutally honest journey of a divorced mom...

It’s only been a year since her divorce, so why would Jane Adamson do something as stupid as attempt to date again? Wasn’t her marriage scarring enough? The answer was simple—her kids. They worried about her and wanted to see her happy again.

She needed to be happy . She needed to learn to trust again and feel pretty again and human again.

As a mom of five, it was too easy to hide herself away and focus just on her kids. Who needs men, anyway?"

This book is WONDERFUL!
And HEART-WRENCHING!
And HEROIC!
And SAD!
And AMAZING!

Jane is AMAZING! Trying so hard to please her husband and hold the family together...

She withers away into someone...someone else...someone not herself.

Then when her kids tell her it's time to get out and the police agree she struggles with... HOW...

You will read her incredible journey through that!

Now she is out, and single...

and dating...?

Read as she finds the courage to put her heart out there again...

As she tries to boost her self-esteem...

As she struggles to move forward...

Can she trust a man again?
And what of her ex?

Can she really revitalize the Jane she used to be?

Based largely on the author's own life~

SO. SO. SO. GOOD!
You will cry, feel sorrow, cheer and rejoice!

And believe me, you will want more ~ as this is part 1 of a 6 part series :)

Prince Tennyson

I have a cold...so...my eyes and nose are drippy...and all I wanted to do was curl up on the couch with a really good book.

But what book?
I have quite a stack...
From Inspiration to Biographies
From Romance to Suspense

What to choose...what to choose.
Then I came across Prince Tennyson by Jenni James.

Not even knowing what it was about I picked it up and started reading.

I was immediately charmed by the grade-school, little-girl dialog.

What a sweet story she was sharing...she is telling about her dad whom she lost on a Wednesday to the war in Iraq...and how ever since then Wednesdays were really bad days for her...

Her dad was a prince...not by royal bloodline...
But by the way he treated his family and everyone around him.

Then one Wednesday something very wonderful happened....

In the end my eyes and nose were drippy...not because of the cold...

But because I was so touched by the story of one little girls dad...known as Prince Tennyson :)

Rumplestiltskin

I have never been one of those girls to fall in love with a character...
I have LOVED many characters...
But to fall IN LOVE with one was just something I never did...

That is until NOW!

I am TOTALLY IN LOVE with Rumple!

Cursed beyond recognition and figuratively buried by his family...Rumple lives in the cellar under the kitchen...and works as a servant.

Yet he remains witty and charming and fearless and compassionate and full of surprises.

Aubrynn has been ordered to turn straw into gold...
Rumplestiltskin comes to her aid...and as Aubrynn goes about learning his real name...she will learn so much more about him.

There are SO MANY good scenes I want to tell you about that are in this book...but I don't want to spoil it...

Just know that this faerie tale is unlike any other telling before!

Okay...Okay...I just HAVE to tell you about one scene...I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how Aubrynn falls asleep from sheer exhaustion in Rumples' arms after they have spent the night spinning the straw into gold..SO TENDER...SO GOOD!

Hurry and read the book so we can talk about it :)

Sleeping Beauty

In all the fairy tales...Sleeping Beauty just lies there...beautifully sleeping!

But...

What if that were not so?

What if Sleeping Beauty were in fact roaming the castle...

Conversing with the servants...

Helping the cook...

Can it be?

Or is it a dream...

Just a dream in Sleeping Beauty's...sleeping mind?

Will the Prince come and wake her...and if so...will she be able to fight off the evil Villeria?

Or is living in a dream world better protection from the true world around her?

An amazing retelling of a wonderful story!

Jenni James is definitely one of my favorite authors!

I LOVE her books!

Pride & Popularity

I LOVE the title of this book!

Can Chloe get past her PRIDE?

Can Taylor get past his POPULARITY?

Isn't it amazing how we judge so harshly and believe all that is said without knowing all of the facts?

Taylor is just trying to do what he thinks is best...now it is Chloe's turn to work through all of the information she has been given to find the truth.
