The Afterlife Academy

THE AFTERLIFE ACADEMY
By Frank L. Cole

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What a FUN concept! A young boy dies and instead of joining the heavenly choir he is given the charge to guard another young boy who is in grave danger. Lacking any skill or training he must battle scary things like shades and wraiths and dark omens and demons--
They told him that he was a "natural" at conquering these beings.
Is it true or is something else amiss?
Perfect read for middle-grade readers or any one young at heart.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

TWO TWELVE-YEAR-OLD BOYS IN POSSESSION OF A CREEPY BOOK WITH A HORDE OF ANGRY DEMONS AFTER THEM. WHAT COULD GO WRONG?

When Walter Prairie is struck dead by a bolt of lightning, he’s fast-tracked through the Afterlife Academy and assigned as a Guardian Agent to protect a High-Level Target. Walter’s HLT, Charlie Dewdle, isn’t the most popular kid in school. He’s a bit paranormally obsessed. And he has just found an old book that could be used to open the Gateway for demons to wreak havoc on earth. Now, it’s up to Charlie and Walter to fight an eclectic horde of enemies and protect humankind at all costs. But saving the world isn’t so easy. Especially when your protector doesn’t know the first thing about the underworld, bullies like Mo Horvath are trying to hunt you down, pretty and popular Melissa Bittner is suddenly talking to you, and your parents think you’re going crazy.

About the Author
Frank L. Cole was born into a family of southern storytellers and wrote his first book at age eight. Sadly, he misplaced the manuscript and has since forgotten what he wrote.

Highly superstitious and gullible to a fault, Frank will believe in any creepy story you tell him, especially ones involving ghosts and Big Foot.

Currently, along with his wife and three children, he resides in the shadow of a majestic western mountain range, which is most likely haunted.

My Review:
I was having "one of those days" and I needed something to take me away from it all...

After trying 3 other books...I picked up this one...and it worked!

I was taken away from my troubles and thrown into the adventures of Hashbrown and his friends...this time into a different dimension...yet the same too...

No matter where you go kids are kids, bullies are bullies and everyone wants to be the winner.

This story has some really good twists to it....especially the ending.

Kids of ALL ages will love the Hashbrown Winters series

So forget your troubles for a while and spend a few moments with Hashbrown and his friends...They will bring a smile to your face :)

About the Book:
Author: Frank L. Cole
Release Date: November 2010
Publisher: Bonneville Books
Genre: Middle Fiction

Book Details:
Life at Pordunce is back to normal – well, as normal as ever in the three-ring circus that passes for Hashbrown’s elementary school. But everything changes when a ghostly presence starts roaming the halls. And even worse, Hashbrown’s club may be about to lose one of its founding members.

My Review:
This series continues to be AMAZING!
The humor and adventures of this fun group of kids is wonderful!
I LOVE the discussions Questions at the back of each book....

One of the questions is:
Nathanial "Nugget" Nottingham was a character created by a real elementary school student named Kaitlyn Larkin. If you could create a character for the Hashbrown adventures, what would your character's name be and what would he or she look like? (You can leave a comment below of your character :)

Here is a fun clip of the Hashbrown books written so far....:)

My Review:
I LOVE that this book starts out with a hint of one storyline and then moves on to the main storyline and then SMACK you are given hints to the first storyline and you think "what is happening?" And then you remember..."Oh, yeah." And then it fits all together...oh...so...GOOD!"
This series is AMAZING! They are most definitely on my list of BEST MIDDLE READER FICTION. Right up there with Fablehaven, Far World and Janitors!

The Adventures of Hashbrown Winters

2 comments
About the Book:
Author: Frank L. Cole
Release Date: June 2009
Publisher: Cedar Fort, Inc.
Genre: Middle Fiction

Book Description:
The Adventures of Hashbrown Winters is the 1st book in Frank L. Cole‘s Hashbrown Winter Series. Join Hashbrown, Snow Cone, Whiz, and the rest of the gang in Frank Cole’s hilarious debut novel of the trials and tragedies of fifth grade life. The Adventures of Hashbrown Winters will keep kids and parents alike laughing out loud, groaning in sympathy, and turning pages until well past bedtime.

Hashbrown Winters and his treehouse club of buddies are well known around Pordunce Elementary, especially after Hashbrown s seminar last year on how to give the best show and tell performances er, presentations. But when Hashbrown accidentally crosses Hambone Oxcart, the death dealer of Pordunce, he ll need more than just the support of his friends to survive Hambone s wrath.

Book Excerpt:
There I stood, hiding next to the vending machines, disguised as a potted plant. I brushed the plastic leaves from my face and stared down the hallway toward the front double doors. Snow Cone always said one day this ridiculous costume would come in handy.

Fifteen minutes had passed since the last student left for the buses, but I wasn’t about to take any chances. Not with my life hanging in the balance. Leaning forward, I peered around the corner just as the sound of footsteps echoed down the hallway. Was this it? Could this be him? Was I about to be pulverized by Hambone while wearing an emergency disguise I had just pulled from my locker?

My Review:
This book is WONDERFUL!
I LOVED the humor!
This book has a lot of creativity to it and kept me reading to know what was going to happen next.
I really enjoyed seeing the world through the eyes of a kid again and all the trauma that happens in school and on the playground :)
This is a perfect book to read alone OR together as a family OR in a classroom!
